homealone4The Movie Night Review this is Home Alone 4.  We have seen the all the Home Alone movies I think except for Home Alone: The Holiday Heist.

My rating for this one is 2 1/2 out of 5 stars. The kids would give it a solid 4 or 5, because there is slap stick, people falling out of windows, turning into blocks of ice, and other hijinks.

My rating is low, because for one it is really really hard to top Home Alone with Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern were a great comedic team as the bumbling burgulars.

What I did not realize when we started watching this is that this is still supposed to be about the McCallisters. I got a few hints when the kids names were the same, and then we see Marv again this time played by French Stewart. Then it clicked that it was the same “people” played by ALL new actors.

I would have rather they spun off to another kid, cousin, or something. Home Alone 3 veered off with a new kid, and that worked. Why is Kevin still 8 or whatever?

Big peeve was that NO ONE remembered the “Wet Bandits” from the first one. Of course it’s all in Kevin’s head, him acting out, etc. Later I started to wonder if the parents ever knew about the break-ins from the first movie, but how else would you explain the destruction in the house. I know if I had caused that much property damage in my parents’ house there is no way I am not taking the fall for it!

This would be the back of the Home Alone 4 video case if I wrote it:

Kevin’s parents have split and are now living apart. Christmas is approaching and Kevin’s dad has offered for the kids to come stay at his new girlfriend, Natalie’s  “Smart House”. Kevin upset with his family (as before) goes, and then is in a battle (The Boy’s favorite word) with Marv (Wet Bandit from Home Alone 1 and 2) and his girlfriend, Vera, to once again defend the house at all cost. Will Kevin save the day? Will he destroy Natalie’s house? Will his parents get back together? Watch and find out! (honestly you know all these answers already)

If you really need a movie to watch with the kids it will work. I would not go out of my way to get it though!
