I had a request for homemade baby wipes after posting about making my own cleaning wipes.  http://dealinanddishin.com/?p=134
There are a lot of recipes online for these. What I found the most common was either boiling water first or using distilled to avoid molding later and using some kind of preservative or antibacterial like tea tree oil or vinegar.

If you need vinegar here’s a coupon for Heinz

The basics are really 1. Water 2. Baby Soap 3. Baby Oil

I found Tea Tree Oil at Hobby Lobby for about $6 (had a coupon from their site)

http://www.hobbylobby.com/ Different coupons each week.

It took me a bit to find the right container for the right price. Ended up with this one from the dollar section at our Buy Low grocery store.

I’m going to use the same blue Shop Towels like I do for cleaning wipes.  You can buy them at Wal-mart, Sam’s Club, etc. I buy mine at  Sam’s in 12 packs for $16.88.

Cut the towels in half (the red line is perfect guideline). The best knife is a bread knife (electric even better), but I don’t have one anymore so I used a steak knife to saw through.

I decided to try a simple wipe this time. Personally the tea tree oil is very strong smelling. It’s a mint smell and we have Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and I like that but for a baby I wasn’t sure. I will research some other uses for the Tea Tree.

I boiled my water for a few minutes then let it cool slightly.

Put 1 half of the paper towel roll in the container put 2 Tbsp of Baby wash and 1 tsp baby oil and then I put 3 cups of water.

Then I had decided to put the vinegar in because the wipes smell so sweet to me with the Baby wash and I keep these in the bathroom for the kids so they will last  a long time. So I added 2 Tbsp of the vinegar. I would recommend putting all the ingredients in first then the water. The smell lingers but is mild.

Cut an X in the center of the lid then it just has to sit and soak up the liquid and pull the first wipe from the center of the roll up through the X

Next time what I will change…it might be a touch too soapy so I will reduce the soap to 1 1/2 Tbsp, keep the oil the same, oil, and the vinegar.
